Llanwonno has several places to park nearby, either to set off from or to work around for a pickup, and a larger car park can be found below Brynffynon hotel. You will also come across a café in Darwonno Woods, though it is important to check opening times and to work around them if you want to fit it into the route.
Starting at Godreaman, the bridleway up through the woods is a genuinely steep climb, but the shelter from the tree line at least keeps the sun off your back. Keep to the waymarked path and continue climbing until the ground begins to level out, reaching the hump of the hill where, in summer months, you can find copious amounts of bilberries. Now things have levelled out, you’ll find the rest of the ride all the more rewarding!
As you keep on the track south, you will get a bit of momentum behind you as you enjoy a downhill stretch before the final, much shorter, assent onto the ridge above the Ferndale Valley. Here, the views match the pleasure of riding level again, following the tough nature of the route so far.
One idea might be to take in the views, enjoy the flat and then turn right around and go to tackle the downhill route! The route provides a completely different challenge when you ride down it, which might be just the ticket for some riders.
