t’s a steady climb through forestry and open hillside, rewarding riders with big views across the Rhondda and a real sense of escape. Surfaces are mostly compact stone and forest track, suitable for leisure cycling, MTB, and horseriding.
From Barry Sidings, follow waymarked trails as they rise gradually through the woodland. The route opens out onto high ground near Llanwonno, where riders can pause, enjoy the scenery, and access the chapel, picnic areas, and the well-known refreshment stop at St Gwynno’s.
This stretch links easily with other Great Glamorgan Way routes and wider Rhondda trail networks, making it a great through-route or the perfect out-and-back climb.
Note: Forestry work may occasionally affect access; follow any temporary signage on site.
*Approximate time by horse. By bike will be quicker.
